The report commented on signage and inclusive design; gave a detailed photograph-based analysis of existing signs along routes to Pathology and Outpatients, and included a list of practical stages for implementing changes. We also included alternative sign constructions and designs that would create better signs.
We suggested simple changes to positioning, lighting and design of signs and discussed other wayfinding devices such as block-specific maps. The suggested wayfinding strategy would provide people with a range of relevant information at various stages of their journey. The designs which followed this report mirrored our recommendations and are part of a system that can be applied to other areas of the hospital.
