Our approach (continued)

Once the English master form was agreed and signed off, it was translated by the participating countries and reformatted for each language. This turned 3 forms into 12 , which then had to be managed editorially (minor amendments) and from a production point of view. Each form also had to be numbered individually so it could be tracked.

Feedback and observations

In the UK, of the three towns surveyed so far, CAS have had a response rate of between 20 and 40%, which is well above the average of 10% or less for this type of survey, especially considering the sensitivity of some of the information asked for. Even in Portugal, where a lower response rate was expected because of literacy levels in the farming community, a similar result was achieved.

Overall, the forms were well answered and understood with few misunderstandings or errors. The client felt that the professional look and feel helped the response rate and was also a useful tool in promoting this type of research to sponsors.
