The Facilities Management Directorate (FMD) at the University of Reading asked us to design and create easy-to-update MS Word templates for key reference documents. The documents had to be easy-to-read as well as visually appealing, and had to comply with brand guidelines.
We reviewed the existing documents and discussed improvements with our clients. We then designed and created MS Word templates (multiple sections, multiple styles, hierarchical numbering and style-linked fields) for them to use.
The final templates form a suite of documents, but the hierarchy and styles are tailored to reflect the content for ease-of-use by the end-user.
We have created three templates to date and supplied short, basic but comprehensive user guides to help authors who are unfamiliar with MS Word styles to create professional-looking documents.
