The University of Reading is developing a new signage and wayfinding system for its campuses. As part of this process they required an assessment of external signage required for their two main campuses; this would provide the University with enough detailed information to install new signs.
The Text Matters team included Barry Gray (wayfinding manager), Dr Theresa Millar (project manager) and Sandina Miller (designer, researcher and writer).
We visited the site and discussed general wayfinding concerns and policy decisions with the University, before starting our surveys.
We interviewed staff responsible for directing visitors on campus, and assessed the types of information required by visitors at different stages in their journey. Our findings influenced our recommendations regarding particular types of signs needed on the campuses and where these were best installed.
