The University of Exeter needed new maps for their three campuses. These maps needed to be easy to use and have a clear layout that reinforced the University’s brand values.
The project had three main stages; stage 1 was to create five small-scale maps for use on their website and print publications. In stage 2 we designed three more maps to add to the family [read the project report], and in stage 3 we designed large-scale versions of the campus maps [read the project report].
We redrew three of the maps and created two new maps.
We refined the design focusing on legibility and clarity, and using the University’s corporate typeface. We produced a ‘prototype’ design of the Streatham campus showing features and colour choices, then designed the remaining 2 maps: St Luke’s campus map and Cornwall campus map.
We then created a city map showing the Streatham and St Luke’s campuses in relation to the city centre, and a map giving directions from the M5 to the City centre/campuses.
We supplied artwork for each map as a layered Adobe Illustrator eps file.
